Child Nutrition Manager
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Non-Exempt Position; Full time; 10 months per school year (with possibility of summer work); 8hr per day.
SALARY: NC 06- Based on Qualifications and Experience
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. Minimum of three years’ experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen, preferably in a school setting. Person in Charge (PIC) sanitation certification or ability to receive certification within 4 months of employment.
KNOWLEGE AND SKILLS:
-Considerable knowledge of food preparation and standards of sanitation and food safety.
-Skills in the use and maintenance of food preparation equipment.
-Skills in the use of computer software, such as Microsoft Word and all components of Meals Plus transitioning into Titan.
-Ability to develop schedules for the use of personnel and material resources.
-Ability to train personnel in equipment use and care, food production and presentation, sanitation, storage and record keeping.
-Ability to perform common mathematical functions for measuring ingredients and conversions of recipes; quantities and timely food preparation; making change and balancing cash register.
-Ability to comprehend and apply written and verbal guidelines and directions, and explain these to others.
-Ability to meet established deadlines as specified by Jackson County Public Schools Nutrition Program, USDA regulations and the State of North Carolina guidance.
-Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships and communicate effectively with the public.
-Ability to counsel employees to maintain productive and positive working relationships.
DUTIES:
- Responsible for following and reviewing planned menus by ensuring needed ingredients and items are ordered and available.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining staff work schedules and duties.
- Responsible for monitoring participation, inventory, and deliveries.
- Maintains and fulfills diet orders for students with specific dietary needs.
- Maintains a safe environment for students and staff.
- Maintains standards and follows guidelines of sanitation and food safety.
- Manages all catering orders, events and bag lunches.
- Plans use of leftover over foods based on HACCP regulations.
- Enforces employee sanitation procedures and personal hygiene procedures.
- Prepares, cooks, and serves meals and prepares a la carte items for sale, preparing entrees, vegetables and other side dishes according to standardized recipes, prepares meals for special diets according to recipes or other instructions provided.
- Provides support and assistance for educational experiences such as Farm to School, Health Fairs, Test Testing and promotion of the SNP.
- Responsible for collecting and counting all cafeteria funds, bank deposits and handling receipts and disbursements.
- Completes assigned daily, weekly, monthly reports.
- Maintains accurate inventory and identifies food and supplies to be ordered.
- Attends workshops, classes, and meetings, as directed, to enhance and maintain knowledge of food services. This includes monthly managers meetings at the county office.
- Evaluates performance of each employee annually through job evaluations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a school kitchen environment where temperatures from hot ovens, steamers and dishwashers can cause discomfort. Noise from students and kitchen equipment can be excessive. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion, exert up to 25 pounds of force regularly, or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to stand for hours. Must be able to bend, twist, lift, stoop, and reach overhead to perform assigned tasks.
