TEACHER ASSISTANT- (MEDIA CENTER)
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Non Exempt Position; 10 month position (per school year);Full Time; 24-25 school year only with possibility of continuation.
LOCATION: Blue Ridge School and Blue Ridge Early College
SALARY: NC 04-06
QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate with completion of at least two years of higher education or completion of an associate’s degree, required. NCLB legislation on compliance required. Experience working with children preferred.
DUTIES: The Media Center Assistant will support the day-to-day operations of the school media center, providing assistance to students and staff in locating, checking out, and utilizing a wide variety of educational resources. This position involves maintaining an organized and welcoming environment for students in grades K-12, helping students and teachers access developmentally appropriate reading materials, and providing general clerical support to the media center. Key Responsibilities: - Book Circulation: Assist students and staff with checking out and returning books, ensuring all materials are processed correctly. Offer guidance on selecting developmentally appropriate books for K-12 students. - Inventory Management: Conduct routine inventory of the library’s collection to ensure materials are properly organized, cataloged, and maintained. Report lost or damaged books to the Media Specialist for replacement or repair. - Catalog System: Utilize the school’s online catalog system to help students and teachers locate resources efficiently. Update catalog records when new materials are acquired and assist with troubleshooting issues with the system. - Assisting Teachers: Collaborate with teachers to gather and prepare reading materials, lesson support materials, and other instructional resources. Assist in organizing materials for classroom reading activities and special projects. - Library Support: Help maintain a welcoming, quiet, and organized media center environment that encourages reading and learning. Assist with organizing special events, such as book fairs, reading challenges, or author visits. - Student Assistance: Offer guidance to students in using media center resources and equipment (computers, printers, etc.) and support their research and literacy efforts. Provide ageappropriate literacy support and promote a love of reading. - General Clerical Duties: Perform clerical tasks such as shelving books, processing overdue notices, maintaining student records, and creating displays to highlight new or seasonal books and resources.
